Gaming Labs International, an independent tester of gambling products, discovered several noncompliance issues when assessing BetMGM’s operations in Massachusetts.

The state gambling regulator’s Investigations and Enforcement Bureau revealed some of the probe’s initial findings, outlining how the operator took banned prop bets on college football and college basketball games, as well as improper wagers on sports leagues in Belarus and unsanctioned Glory Kickboxing events.

An adjudicatory hearing will take place at some point for BetMGM to discuss the issues..

BetMGM accepted more than 15,000 prohibited prop bets on college football players

The audit resulted from previous compliance issues raised regarding BetMGM. Someone in the sports betting side of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) reported in February that BetMGM accepted more than 15,000 prohibited prop bets on college football players, with the handle adding up to $200,000+.

Off the back of these failings, BetMGM commissioned Gaming Labs International to look further into its operations, which led to the most recent conclusions from the ongoing probe. The MGC has not yet taken action regarding BetMGM’s compliance problems but the company could face a fine and other potential penalties following the adjudicatory hearing.

The operator is the third-largest sportsbook in Massachusetts, with its gross gaming revenue for the second quarter of 2024 reaching $7.7m.
