An unnamed beauty queen from the Western Thailand province of Ratchaburi has taken the unusual step of turning herself into police, Thaiger reports, after realizing “the illegality of promoting gambling websites.”

The Thai and English daily news site cited Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division 1, Police Major General Chatpantakarn Klayklueng, as stating the beauty queen had “come forward to meet with investigators.”

Chatpantakarn added that the woman had admitted “that promoting gambling websites is unlawful.”

The cybercrime chief warned his unit has shuttered “tens of thousands” of illegal gambling websites in Thailand. Chatpantakarn told perpetrators not to await arrest but “come to the cyber police” if they know what they’re doing is illegal.

Be thorough before accepting any job.”

The Thaiger also cited Klayklueng as telling online influencers and content creators to consider the consequences of being caught promoting illegal sites. “Be thorough before accepting any job,” he cautioned.

The tale of the beauty queen confessor follows another gambling related drama in the Land of Smiles after the July 30 arrest of a Thai TikTok star at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Police discovered the woman famous on the social media platform as “Soda” was operating gambling website Zigma911 with over ?4bn ($112m) in circulation.

Other than a few bloodsports, all gambling and promotion of gambling is illegal in Thailand, but the country is fast-tracking casinos with a goal of launching them by 2027.
