Swedish gambling regulator Spelinspektionen has cut the SEK 31.5m ($3.1m) fine it imposed on the evoke-rebranded 888 down to SEK 12m ($1.1m).

The gaming inspectorate reevaluated its penalty on evoke’s Malta-based iGaming brand Mr Green, which it accused of anti-money laundering (AML) failures and various duty of care derelictions. Spelinspektionen identified 15 different accounts on Mr Green’s network with “some failures spanning over several years.”

needed to be cut down to “accordingly reflect the appropriate calculations”

Sweden’s Supreme Administrative Court ruled that despite grounds for Spelinspektionen issuing the SEK 31.5m fine in 2021, the figure needed to be cut down to “accordingly reflect the appropriate calculations.”

The news is a relief for the UK-based gambling operator that also ran into issues in Denmark in April when regulator Spillemyndigheden accused it of “insufficiencies” within the brand’s internal risk assessment procedures.

The Danish watchdog accused Mr Green of risk assessment failures on multiple operations, including the area of payment solutions. Spillemyndigheden has given the evoke brand a June 10 deadline to “submit a revised risk assessment strategy.”

Media reports cite an evoke spokesperson as stating the brand has three audit findings to address in Denmark. “We are working closely with the regulator and plan to make some minor amendments to our AML processes and accompanying documentation.”
