The Detroit Lions have re-signed C.J. Moore after he served a season-long suspension for betting on NFL games. The team announced the one-year contract on Tuesday, with the safety set to provide greater depth to special teams and the secondary. He was reportedly a favorite of head coach Dan Campbell before being let go.

The 28-year-old received his suspension in April 2023 and the NFL reinstated him last month. Moore was one of five Lions players to get caught for betting offenses; the team cut the day the league announced his suspension. Just a month prior, the Lions gave Moore a new two-year contract worth $4.5m, with $3m guaranteed.

The Mississippi native was a solid player during his previous stint, leading the special teams in snaps and tackles for a few seasons after initially joining the franchise in 2019 as an undrafted free agent. ?

Moore isn’t the only player bouncing back from a betting ban. Quintez Cephus was let go by the Lions at the same time and he also served a season-long suspension for similar offenses. The Buffalo Bills signed the 26-year-old wide receiver after his reinstatement last month.
