The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has left departing sportsbook licensee FOX Bet with something to remember it by, namely an $80,000 fine. The penalty comes for accepting bets on NCAA games dating from February 2021 to January 2022.

final poke in the eye for co-parent brands Fox and Flutter

The New Jersey penalty is a final poke in the eye for co-parent brands Fox and Flutter Entertainment, with FOX Bet already set to go offline in NJ on August 31. The two brands, who endured a toxic partnership, agreed in July to shutter FOX Bet and part ways.

In NJ, the sportsbook admitted to taking bets on 2021 college games, including Rutgers University vs Northwestern University. A Monmouth University game was also flagged by the DGE that same year. FOX Bet’s other two breaches were for Fairleigh Dickinson and Seton Hall University games.

For the nearly departed FOX Bet, these violations, stated DGE Executive Director David Rebuck, amount to a breach of the New Jersey Casino Control Act.
