Sports wagering will soon be available at the Warhorse Casino in Lincoln, making it the first legal facility in Nebraska to offer this service. The Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association vice-president Lynne McNally announced that sports wagering would start by the end of May, just in time for the NBA finals and College World Series.
state laws won’t allow the casino to take bets on any University of Nebraska or Creighton games
Despite still being under construction, Warhorse is running over 400 slot machines and generated nearly $800,000 in tax revenues during its first five weeks of operation in September 2022. McNally noted, however, that state laws won’t allow the casino to take bets on any University of Nebraska or Creighton games if played on home turf.
Lincoln bettor Bob Lamb said was excited that sports betting was coming to Nebraska and that he could keep his money in state.
“We’ve been pretty patient. It’s been a long time coming,” Lamb told KETV Omaha.
KETV also cites McNally as saying an update on the state’s Omaha and Lincoln casinos under construction will be coming soon, with the latter possibly including sports betting.
