The Clark County Commission has given the nod for a guitar-shaped hotel tower to be constructed at The Mirage. It would replace the 90-foot man-made Mirage volcano that has been active at that location since 1989.

Owner of The Mirage, Hard Rock International, can now start work on its 660-foot-tall, 600-room tower that will appear as back-to-back guitars with “brightly lit strings.” Las Vegas Locally took to Twitter with an artist’s impression of the finished article:

Hard Rock representative Jennifer Lazovich, who previously stated the high-rise would be an “engineering marvel,” said developers plan to build the giant guitar exactly where the volcano currently is.

Lazovich told the committee on Wednesday that her firm plans to “modernize and theme” the entire property around the design of the guitar tower, as the Florida-based giant begins rebranding The Mirage into a Hard Rock resort.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal cited The Mirage president Joe Lupo expressing his gratitude to the county commissioners for approval. He said Hard Rock would “continue to move forward with this iconic property.”
