Another year down

Glastonbury Festival returned to Worthy Farm in the UK with a bang this weekend. Its COVID-forced cancelation in 2021 meant attendees were hungrier than ever for the sense of togetherness that only dancing in a dirty field can bring. There, they were treated to headline performances that have already etched their names into the history books of classic Glasto moments.

youngest-ever and oldest-ever headliners

The 2022 edition of the music festival saw its youngest-ever and oldest-ever headliners on subsequent nights in 20-year-old Billie Eilish and 80-year-old Sir Paul McCartney – the latter’s near-three-hour performance showing that he still has plenty left in the tank. US rapper Kendrick Lamar then closed out proceedings on the Sunday with a career-defining set.

Now that the clean-up operation has begun for 2022 and sad revelers have returned to their day jobs, attention has shifted to the next edition of the event. It will take place in June 2023, and organizer Michael Eavis has revealed that he has headliners already lined up. In anticipation of the event, VegasSlotsOnline News has taken a look at betting odds to determine who this could be.

Taylor Swift +163

It certainly makes sense that US pop star Taylor Swift is the favorite to headline in 2023. She was due to perform in 2021 before organizers canceled the event for safety concerns. Although McCartney and Lamar agreed to perform this year instead, scheduling issues meant that she ultimately couldn’t make her Glastonbury debut.

biggest single-day streams for an album by a female artist

It’s also surprising that she hasn’t played Glastonbury before. She rose to fame in 2006 and was the first singer to release the US best-selling album of a year five times, the last being ‘Evermore’ in 2020. More recently, she broke the Spotify record for the biggest single-day streams for an album by a female artist with ‘Red (Taylor’s Version),’ a ten-minute version of ‘All Too Well’ the stand-out single:

Based on her comments, it seems Swift is still eager to take part in Glastonbury. Sharing her disappointment for the canceled 2020 event, she said: “I wanted to perform in places I hadn’t performed. I haven’t done festivals, really, since early in my career.”

Sportsbooks have the Pennsylvanian popstar at odds of +163 to headline next year.

Sir Elton John +250

Sir Elton John got his first big break as a singer in the 1960s, since then he has released 31 studio albums and toured the world countless times. There is still one venue missing from his list, however. The UK-born singer has never performed at Glastonbury, although sportsbooks think he might get his chance next year.

more than 300 million records worldwide

Throughout his career, John has sold more than 300 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His hit 1972 single ‘Tiny Dancer’ remains his top streaming song. However, he has recently made it back into the US and UK charts through a collaboration with Dua Lipa and Pnau on ‘Cold Heart:’

Asked if he would ever play Glastonbury in 2016, John told the BBC that he had simply “never been asked.” Despite this, he confessed that he loves the festival because of its diversity. “It’s a great springboard for young acts,” he affirmed.

Sportsbooks have the ‘Rocketman’ singer at odds of +250 to take to the Pyramid Stage in 2023, placing him just behind Swift in the rankings.

Beyonce +275

Beyonce isn’t exactly new to Worthy Farm. She became the first woman in 20 years to headline the Pyramid Stage in 2011. The ‘Single Ladies’ hitmaker made it a night to remember, but she hasn’t returned since. Sportsbooks believe 2023 could be her year to double down on her Glasto experiences.

Beyonce’s appearance in 2011 wasn’t completely smooth sailing. A large number of festival-goers criticized the choice of headliner, claiming the pop star didn’t deserve a main slot for the typically rock-oriented event. Despite this, her set seemed to catapult the festival into a new inclusive era in which a mix of pop, rock, and hip-hop artists have earned headline status.

released two more studio albums to critical acclaim

Her selection in 2023 would certainly leave a lot of festival-goers happy. Since her last performance at Glastonbury, she has released two more studio albums to critical acclaim. This includes 2014’s ‘Beyonce’ and 2016’s ‘Lemonade.’ Not only that, but she looks set to release another album in the near future after recently surprising fans with the new single ‘BREAK MY SOUL:’

Sportsbooks have Beyonce at odds of +275 to take to the Glastonbury stage again in 2023.

Bruce Springsteen +275

Another musical legend rumored for a 2023 performance is Bruce Springsteen. The New Jersey star played a marathon slot of two hours and 40 minutes in 2008. Now, the 72-year-old is due another Glastonbury set, and this year’s edition of the event may have offered a little hint of his return.

On Saturday, Springsteen took to the stage alongside Paul McCartney as a surprise guest, joining the former Beatles singer for a rendition of ‘Glory Days’ and ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ before breaking into ‘The End.’ He arrived to rapturous applause and ended with an impressive guitar riff-off alongside McCartney and another surprise guest Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl.

If Springsteen were to get his own headline slot then he certainly wouldn’t be short on hits to play. He released his first album in 1973 but reached worldwide popularity with ‘Born to Run’ in 1975. Now, Bruce has released a staggering 20 studio albums in total, his top streamed songs being ‘Dancing in the Dark’ and ‘Born in the USA.’

Sportsbooks have priced ‘The Boss’ at odds of +275 to play Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage in 2023.

Guns N’ Roses +1200

It wouldn’t be a VSO News odds roundup without an outside shot and Guns N’ Roses are certainly that. The American rockers are yet to play at Worthy Farm and many have linked them to the festival for years. In fact, rumors suggested they were lined up to play in 2020 before a tour scheduling announcement confirmed otherwise.

‘November Rain,’ ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ and ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’

The band, headed by Axl Rose and lead guitarist Slash, formed in 1985 and have sold more than 100 million records worldwide. They have multiple timeless hits such as ‘November Rain,’ ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ and ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine.’ Slash even performed the latter at Glastonbury in 2010 alongside Myles Kennedy:

Its also important to note that Emily Eavis, the Glastonbury booker, has said that she wants more heavy rock acts to perform at the festival. In an interview with Metal Hammer in 2020, she even mentioned Guns N’ Roses specifically. “I think Guns N’Roses need to play here at some point, don’t they?” she hinted.

Guns N’ Roses haven’t yet released their touring schedule for 2023, so there is a chance they could take one of the headline slots next year. Sportsbooks have priced them as outsiders at +1200.
