According to the New Hampshire Lottery, more than 6,000 people registered to bet on sports in New Hampshire on launch day. The lottery also confirmed that more than $250,000 has been wagered so far.

New Hampshire became just the second state in New England, after Rhode Island, to launch legal sports betting on December 30.

The lottery also noted that a large number of residents from nearby Massachusetts have been registering for mobile sports betting in New Hampshire. This trend of people coming from out of state to place sports bets has been a common one, particularly among residents in states neighboring New Jersey.

Charlie McIntyre, executive director of the New Hampshire Lottery, has spoken about the demand for sports betting in New Hampshire. He said:

Clearly there is strong consumer demand that will only grow as we market this new and exciting product.”

DraftKings deal

DraftKings is the sole provider of mobile sports betting in New Hampshire, where it has a six-year deal in place. This allows anyone who is at least 18 years old to place sports bets with the Boston-based DraftKings.?

In addition to mobile sports betting, retail sportsbooks are set to follow. Eligible cities will vote on whether or not they want retail sportsbooks in their area. So far, voters in Somersworth, Manchester, Laconia, Franklin, Claremont, and Berlin have given their blessing.

Retail sportsbooks are expected to open at some stage in the first half of 2020.?
